Hazlina Amran-Halim is currently the Assignments Editor at Singapore Desk, Channel NewsAsia.

Hazlina who is effectively bilingual in English and Malay, also presents new and current affairs programmes on Suria, Channel 5 and Okto.

Prior to her homecoming in 2011, Hazlina spent five years in Perth, Western Australia, finding out how other communities lived their lives.

During her stay downunder she also completed a Master of Film and Television with Distinction from Curtin University of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Political Science from the University of Western Australia.

In her previous appointment, Hazlina lectured in Communications and Media Management at Temasek Polytechnic. For three years, she dedicated her time to moulding future media professionals. Aside from lecturing, Hazlina also led numerous projects, including the Singapore Youth and Media Dialogue.

But her best memories with the young ones will definitely be the experience of taking them on learning and overseas community service trips to places such as New York, Melbourne, Siem Reap and Bandung.

Hazlina is currently serving her second term as a Board Member at the Persatuan Pemudi Islam Singapura (PPIS), a non-profit social welfare organisation dedicated to women empowerment and family services programmes. She is the Chairperson of the Organisation’s Corporate Communications Advisory Committee as well as a founding member of the Research Engagement Taskforce.

Meanwhile at SCWO, Hazlina is the Assistant Honorary Secretary and chairs the organisation’s Women’s Register which recently underwent a revamp. Plus, as a member of SCWO’s Advocacy and Research team, Hazlina is involved in SCWO’s CEDAW Shadow report submission.

And in her free time, Hazlina enjoys diving, reading and trying out a cup of mocha from different parts of the world.
